Greeting Cards History

Sending greeting cards is an older tradition than you would think! The ancient Chinese were probably the first to send greeting cards they exchanged messages of good will to celebrate the New Year, a practice still done to this day. The Egyptians another ancient civilisation sent their greetings on papyrus scrolls.

As early as the 1400s, handmade paper greeting cards were being hand exchanged in Europe. The Germans were known to have created New Year greetings from woodcuts around this time, and handmade paper Valentines were being exchanged in parts of Europe.

The introduction of the postage stamp in 1840 helped the popularity of the greeting card, and by the 1850s, the greeting card had become a popular form of communication of messages of goodwill.

We design and make very high quality hand made greeting cards, all embellishments and motif are handmade, non are mass produced or bought in ready made!
